The requirements for a mortice that is fitted to your external doors, is that it abides by insurance recommendations, this means that it has to have hardened plates to protect against drilling, a minimum of 1000 differs and a bolt that throw at least 20mm and is either hardened or has rollers fitted through the bolt, to prevent cutting with a hacksaw. If you are fitting locks to interior doors or sheds etc. this requirement is not required, as it is really only for personal protection. A mortice lock should always be backed up with a latch lock, on your front door, this is so that you can close your door and it will automatically latch. 

It is a good form of practise to fit a British Standard Dead Latching rim lock to your front door, as these cannot be slipped. 

if fitting together they can be keyed alike in order that they can be opened with the same key, this is done by fitting a euro profile deadlock, as shown.

 The locks shown are Egress locks, which means they can be fitted to multi tenant front doors, they cannot be locked from the inside.
