 The Ingersoll brand is among one of the best named locks on the high security end of the market, here is a short history of the Ingersoll Company and its start.

Ingersoll Locks Ltd was incorporated as a British company in 1940. It was originally the lock manufacturing division of The Ingersoll Watch Co.

Ingersoll initially manufactured padlocks which were well received in the market place. With modifications the famous 'Impregnable' high security padlock range was launched. The Impregnable reputation was so impressive; it was used to secure American nuclear missile silos. During World War II the Ingersoll factory was seconded to produce parts for the Spitfires. In 1950 Ingersoll launched the D20 hook bolt ten lever high security night latch. In 1951 Ingersoll not only exhibited at the Festival of Britain but also provided the locks for the exhibition. In 1969 the famous SC71 nightlatch was launched and has now sold more than 2,000,000 units in the UK alone, and is still going strong to the present day. 1979 saw the launch of the NS80 which later received British Standard Certification BS3621 for theft resistant locks.
