The ERA Escape Nightlatch is the ideal solution where a secure Nightlatch is required but exit is needed for a number of tenants or on a fire exit door.

On a tenement building, it is not a good idea to have an ERA Nightlatch which can be locked from the inside, therefore the solution is the 1730 ERA Nightlatch 60mm backset, which cannot be locked from the inside but can open with a key from the outside.

For instance imagine a tenement building with a number of apartments, the apartment owner comes out of their flat, comes down to the front door and finds the front door has been double locked, the tenant has accidentally left their keys in the apartment, they have been locked in between their own front door and the door of the building, not a very nice scenario, if no other tenant is at home. Our Company has had this happen many times.

Another risk is, if in the event of a fire, the front door to the building has been double locked, I am sure not many people carry spare keys in their pyjamas.

By fitting the ERA 1730 Escape Nightlatch, which gives very good security to the front door, and is also British Standard lock and Insurance approved, the threat is eliminated.

The conflict between a secure British Standard accredited front door lock and fire safety recommendations has now been overcome thanks to the new Keyless Egress Range.

The new BS 8621:2004 standard mirrors the BS 3621:2004 but is for ‘escape’ locks.

The locks are classified as providing keyless egress at all times.

This applies where there is a requirement for an easy action method of opening an external door from the inside with no need for keys or similar devices for unlocking.

Especially relevant for entrance doors in multi-residential and other buildings.

A keyless lever on the inside of the door ensures it is possible to make an emergency escape in the event of a fire.

The ERA Escape Nightlatch can be Mastered and passed to any cylinder with the same profile.

The ERA Escape Nightlatch 1730 can be passed and mastered with the ERA British standard 1830 Rim lock.
